An American Plan: The Village
This project explores the validity of the domestic scale found in the original Shaker village and updates the notion of a traditional village to one that is made into a generic, modular model that function as a new student center for Harvard Business School and its surrounding institutions. This project is a masterplan for a series of scattered buildings. The domestic scale of the project has a range of scale from S, M, to L. It emulates the ‘layered’ elements of Louis Kahn’s Exeter library (the ‘ancestor’ chosen for this project), distinguishing the dynamics of the spaces from the central core to the perimeters of the building.
The placement of the repeated building types follow the existing urban condition of Harvard’s Allston campus with the intention of providing an updated village landscape.
