The Idea of Environment: Equating Altitudes
For this seminar, my group-mates and I studied the significance and conotations of belonging in places that exist on the equator. Specifically how most of the natural landscapes situated within that line is often rich in natural environment, as such, these places were subjects of European colonization.
Titled equating altitudes, Juan-David, Jacob and I used the idea of volcanoes and mountains as natural entities that connects different landscapes in a string of hisotrical narratives.
I picked the archipelago that is my home country of Indonesia, and generated drawings that were largely inspired by drawings produced by the German explorer, Humboldt. The series of drawings below marks in parallel, the historical and naturalistic events that happened in each context.
